Small drywall damage has a way of standing out - especially in tight, visible spots like the trim around a skylight. The chipped, crumbling drywall corner here wasn't a massive structural issue, but it looked rough. And in a spot that catches natural light from above, every imperfection shows.

Here's what we were working with: a damaged corner section where the drywall had broken away and started peeling. The kind of thing that's easy to ignore for a while, but hard to unsee once you notice it. We cut out the compromised material, replaced it, then went through the full process - mud, tape, sand, and repeat until the surface was smooth and ready for paint.

That last step is where a lot of DIY repairs fall apart. Getting the patch to blend with the surrounding wall takes the right technique and the right paint match. Rush it, and you end up with a visible hump or a color that's just slightly off. We take our time on the finish coat so the repair disappears into the wall - no texture differences, no color variation.

The result is a clean, smooth corner that reads exactly like the rest of the wall. No visible seam, no patchy paint, no sign anything was ever wrong there. That's the standard we hold ourselves to on every drywall repair, big or small.

Whether it's a corner like this one or a larger section that needs to come out entirely, the process matters. Cutting corners on prep work always shows up later. We'd rather do it right the first time.
